Merritt in British Columbia is a small city situated in the southern part of the province, in the southwestern part of Canada, and 270 km northeast of Vancouver. Traditionally an agricultural city, Merritt is located at the confluence of two rivers (the Nicola River and the Coldwater River) and two highways (Highway 5, and Highway 97C). It was named after mining engineer William Hamilton Merritt III. There are a number of annual concerts and music-related events taking place in the city. Merritt was incorporated as a city on April 1, 1911. Points of interest in the city are Lions Memorial Park, Central Park, Merritt Viewpoint, Moon Shadows RV Park & Campground, Nicola Valley Museum-Archives, etc. The city is also home to Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT).
