Soldiers & Sailors Monument in Indianapolis is a notable monument located in the city center, built in 1888 and designed by German architect Bruno Schmitz. It is the finest example of neoclassical style to honor veterans of the American Civil War and the American Revolutionary War. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 23, 1973, and designated as a National Historic Landmark District Contributing Property on December 23, 2016. The basement of the monument has a small museum known as the Civil War Museum, which also has some exhibitions linked to the history of Indianapolis.
