## What is UTM?

**UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) coordinate system** is basically geographical latitude longitude system that is expressed in two-dimensional projection of the surface of earth where the earth map is divided into 60 zones, with each of them separated by 6 degrees in longitude and the locations are expressed in terms of so called easting and northing, i.e. Easting 380749.6, Northing 4928286.8 This system is most commonly used for military purposes.

- Easting: the x coordinate
- Northing: the y coordinate

### Tips

- You can press ENTER to calculate UTM in the lat long input box.
- If you click on the UTM easting and UTM northing input box, it will auto select the value.
- You can also get the lat long and the UTM values by clicking on the map.

World Geodetic System WGS84 standard is used on this **latitude and longitude to UTM converter**.

The tools in this software are just a solution to most local and standard usage for developing great ideas

Why do you only offer conversions one way like lat long to UTM? Why not offer them the other way as well? You already know how to convert between the systems, how hard would it be to offer the conversion the other way?

Need for entering as many as possible points/coordinates to locate different areas.

Great job although!!!

Wow, this is tge best tool I've come across. OMG.

how many meters are there between long 35 and 36

What 'Z' indicates

This tool is very very help full for all person who use this ...., to have E & N option on L/L to UTM..... Thanks................

this tools is great and has been very helpful, but it's not very precise. Can we get a larger map screen so i can get in closer to pinpoint where i need the coordinates?

Good tool, but...

I entered a point (33.327081, -111.858158) in Lat/Long in Phoenix, it correctly showed the point on map. However it returned the UTM zone as 12S instead of 12N.

The booommmmm very fantastic !!!

A very nice tools

I need to determine the Lat/Long location of target locations provided by NATO in UTM. I tried the reverse on this page for city of Nis, which is given Lat/Long of 43°19′09″N 21°53′46″E according to Wikipedia, but I do not know how to enter degrees, minutes and seconds into this converter. All help will be appreciated. Thank you. Reply here or direct to me at DU story dash owner at yahoo groups dot com

This app is fantastic. After conversion, it shows the location on map

its very good tool

Thank for this tool.

Pl.clear manualy this formula

the datum is WGS84

iam asking about the accuracy there is nearly 60 meters difference on a location at north Africa !

You can use the spreadsheet at the following link to batch convert: https://www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/UsefulData/UTMFormulas.HTM

Super to use but tiresome with more to convert. otherwise thank you for simplifying my job

Actually due to the Earth's precession over a given period, the UTM changes. This is only relevant to our space-time continuum. So this is not technically incorrect.

@Wycliffe-you can do it in microsurvey. download a free trial and convert everything from there. after conversion, you export all point in csv file.

hope thats help

A great tool, but further developments need to be made so that the point are entered in bulk and the output are downloadable/printable. Thanks for this though.

Great and becomes very useful and fast, my only worry is does the model includes all the Datums of this world or party of it?

this is right but how to compile a full excel file

please tell formulas of decimal to UTM for big data

Thanks a lot its helpful,my problems have solved.

But my question is,if i want this software to be installed in my computer how can i get it?

Great tool!

This is Fabulous

Very good, u no go lost.

i like this .

Astonishing, great, very well, fantastic

Geodetic datum is World Geodetic System WGS84 standard.

A lot of effort has been put into what could be a great tool, but it is one major flaw, which makes it useless.

WHAT IS THE GEODETIC DATUM?

Surely the person who wrote this software understands the significance of the datum.

A very nice tools for find our home place

It is very good tool and helpful to easily find out the UTM zone.

I have sets of Lats and Lons for sites positions in Canada that seem to be Degrees,Minutes, and Seconds but do not work in any conversion because Seconds are often more than 60. An example: N 49 22 708 W 120 09 126 ... How does one work with that?

is there a way to upload a file with lat lon and get UTM coordinates? I have about 1000 points and its a pain to do them 1 by 1

Are UTM coordinates using NAD27 or NAD83?

Sooooo nice, thank you <3

very nice and easy

Very helpful to use..I worked on a assignment for class, and this was the website too you.

Keep up the good work!

~That one person. .-. =.=

This would be more useful if one could batch convert multiple LatLong pairs.

how to I usethese values in visual mudflow software

Sorry about my previous post. I thought the S and N referred to north and south, but I now see the UTM zones have various other letters too, so S and N don't mean south and north.

There is a small error in reporting the UTM Zone, whereby N and S are transposed. Locations in Europe show a UTM S zone, while locations in Africa directly to the south of the European location show UTM N. Very nice app apart from that.

are UTM References NAD 1927 or NAD 1883 and are your long lat coor WGS84 or other?

Nice one, super

Very Good to use also in norwegian as a tool in rescue mission

Very good

upto 20 meter resolution .. good to use as base map.

What is the datum in this converting (from lat/long to UTM)? Use datum = ETRS89 or datum=WGS 84?

very nice map

Super Easy to use. Loving the new click on the image to get Easting and Northing option.

Great tool!!!
