Bodrum Castle is one of the main landmarks and an old castle situated in the city of Bodrum, the capital of Bodrum Province, south western Turkey. It was built in the 15th century as the main fortification of the city, at the epochs when this region of modern Turkey was under the rule of European Empires. In the Middle Ages, when the Ottomans tried to obtain the lands back, the castle served as an important militarily hub and a strategically important place. Today, the castle can be observed in the waterfront of the city, and it has preserved quite well. Since the middle of the last century the castle has been a home to the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The castle is under protection of UNESCO.
