The Red Fort is one of the principal attractions of the city Old Delhi, located at Netaji Subhash Marg in Lal Qila, in the district named Chandni Chowk. It is a beautiful historic fortress and a landmark which has become a symbol of modern India and is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the capital city of the country. The Red Fort can be found on the southern bank of the River Yamuna surrounded by other important historical buildings and a beautiful green area. A historical Palace of Diwan-e-Khas, the monument of Diwan-i-Aim, and an old mosque Moti Masjid are the parts of the tourist area. There are some other more modern buildings situated near the fortress, including Swatantrata Sangram Museum, a building of the Institute of Archaeology, Chatta Chowk Bazar / Meena Bazaar, and some others.

The Red Fort is a unique architectural monument and one of the most valuable parts of the country's cultural heritage. It is the former Royal residence built in the middle of the 17th century, and then for a long time used as a fortification protracting the city against possible invasions and armed captures. The very building of the Red Fort has a few gates, the main building, a porch, and some other architectural parts. The central gate overlooking the river of Yamuna is called the Lahori Gate, and the opposite gate facing the area of the city (to the south of the building) is traditionally called the Delhi Gate. Red sandstone walls of the fortification stress on its being a part of the Royal Family property and the common name of the landmark is 'Blessed Fort'.
