6th October Bridge is one of the largest bridges that are located in Egypt. It is the longest bridge in Cairo which has two sections and it passes over the river Nile twice. The first part of the bridge connects the central part of Cairo City with the eastern part of Gezira Island, and the second smaller part of the bridge is located as a link between the western part of Gezira Island and the left bank of the Nile. The name of the bridge is dedicated to the events of the mid 1970s which were among the key events leading to the Arab-Israeli War. Built in the mid 1990s, the bridge has a really important location and function as it unites the Cairo International Airport with the city center and Cairo downtown area.
