Aït Benhaddou (آيت بن حدّو) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Morocco’s Ounila Valley. This small historic village, known as a ksar (or qṣar, a fortified commune), is renowned for its distinctive Moroccan architecture that reflects its rich history. Situated 180 kilometers southeast of Marrakesh, Aït Benhaddou is also a popular tourist destination offering a variety of accommodation options.
Unfortunately, the site was damaged during the Al Haouz earthquake on 8 September 2023.
Aït Benhaddou has served as the shooting location for numerous films, including classics such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and The Message (1976), as well as modern films like The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Babel (2006), and The Odyssey (2026). Additionally, several scenes from the television series Game of Thrones were filmed in this historic village.
