Alahan Monastery is an important historical site and the ruins of an old monastery situated in the neighborhood of the city of Mersin in Marsin Province, southern Turkey. The monastery was built in the 5th century and located high in the Isauria mountains. Built in the Byzantine epoch, the monastery played a role as a religious place and the destination for pilgrims and believers. Today, it is a key landmark of the area and all the visitors can take a guided tour to the site. Since it is located quite high in the mountains (about 3 - 4 thousand feet), it is necessary to walk up for about an hour from the neighboring settlement. The monastery is on the list of the UNESCOWorld Heritage and is one of the most interesting places to visit in the region.
