It is a historic town and the capital of the well known region of Gascony which is a homeland to the legendary D'Artagnan. Auch was established in the early Roman times as a small village on the river Gers. The name of the town is probably derived from the name of the first local population, Ausci, living there. Today, the town of Auch is a modern community and a very nice place to visit, with plenty of historical buildings and landmarks like the Cathédrale Sainte-Marie, La Tour d'Armagnac prison, the statue of the famous Dumas' character, and so on.
