Balagtas, formerly known as Caruya, is a municipality in the Philippines, located in the province of Bulacan and 25 kilometers northwest of Quezon City. It has 9 barangays and is famous for its ceramic crafts, pottery, furniture, and other industrial sectors. It was founded in 1596, renamed on June 18, 1966, and named for Francisco Balagtas. It has a total area of 28.66 km2 (11.07 sq mi). Balagtas is home to many educational institutions, including the College of St. Lawrence, Bulacan Merchant Marine Academy, and STI College. One of the notable residents of Balagtas is Regine Velasquez, a famous singer and actress.
