Belmopan: The Capital of Belize

Belmopan is the capital city of Belize, located 78 kilometers southwest of the former capital, Belize City. Founded in 1970, the city is nicknamed The Garden City. It is situated in the Cayo District in western Belize, about 80 kilometers from the Caribbean Sea coast. Belmopan is one of the smallest and newest capital cities in the world. The city is home to government offices, historical landmarks, and various points of interest. The National Assembly Building of Belize, which houses the House of Representatives and the Senate, is located in Belmopan.

The city can be reached via the Hummingbird Highway, and the Hector Silva Airstrip also serves the area. Belmopan offers many accommodation options, sports facilities, parks, restaurants, and other tourist attractions. The Belmopan Museum, located on Culvert Road, is a planned archaeology museum. Guanacaste National Park, located along the Belize River, is a popular tourist attraction known for its forests, hiking areas, and rich wildlife.
