Dolmabahçe Palace (Dolmabahçe Sarayı in Turkish), Turkey's largest palace, is an incredible historical building located in the Beşiktaş district, Istanbul, Turkey. It was constructed between 1843 and 1856, by the Empire's 31st Sultan, Abdülmecid I, and designed by Garabet Balyan. The palace served as home to Ottoman Sultans. It was also used as a presidential residence by Atatürk, the founding father of the Republic of Turkey. It is where he died on November 10, 1938. Today, Dolmabahçe Palace is managed by the Directorate of National Palaces and serves as a museum featuring large collections of Bohemian and Baccarat crystal chandeliers, oil paintings, calligraphy, and carpets. The palace has the largest chandelier in the world, made from Bohemian crystal. It has an amazing location on the European coast of the Bosporus.
