This central square of Kyiv is located in the old part of the city, the Upper town, on the Dnipro River hills, next to other historical streets of Kyiv. European Square (Yevropeiska ploshcha) has a few interesting buildings, including the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, Hotel Dnipro, Yaroslav the Wise National Library of Ukraine, and the National Center "Ukrainian House". This is one of the oldest squares of Kyiv, which was originally used as a place for horse trading. It was known as the Horse's Square (Konnaya Ploschad). The square is situated at the northeastern end of Khreschatyk, the main street of the city.
