Established by John Carroll on January 23, 1789, the university is best known for its medical and law programs. It is one of the top universities in the country. It is also the oldest Catholic university in the United States. Healy Hall, the flagship building of the main campus of the university designed by Paul J. Pelz, is a National Historic Landmark.
