Mayon Volcano (Bulkang Mayon) is the Philippines’ most active volcano, located in Albay Province in the Bicol Region. It lies in the southeastern part of Luzon Island, about 19 kilometers northwest of Legazpi City. This iconic volcano is part of Mayon Volcano Natural Park, a popular tourist destination known for its scenic landscapes. The park offers hiking and climbing areas, campsites, the Mayon Planetarium, and several other attractions. There are also various accommodation options nearby, allowing visitors to fully enjoy the views. Mayon is especially famous for its perfectly symmetrical volcanic cone.
The national park was first established on July 20, 1938, and later declared a Natural Park in 2000. Covering approximately 5,775.7 hectares (14,272 acres), it is a large area protected by the government.
Mayon Volcano has erupted more than 30 times since the 17th century, causing loss of life and forcing nearby communities to evacuate many times. The most devastating eruption on record occurred in 1814, when the town of Cagsawa was buried and around 1,200 residents lost their lives.

Philippine authorities raised the alert level for Mayon Volcano on Tuesday, warning that the volcano could exhibit explosive activity in the coming days or weeks. People were advised to stay away from the 6-kilometer danger zone around the volcano.
