Narendra Modi Stadium: World’s Largest Cricket Stadium

Narendra Modi Stadium (નરેન્દ્ર મોદી સ્ટેડિયમ) is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, and is the largest cricket stadium in the world. It is situated in Motera, a northwestern neighborhood of Ahmedabad, on the banks of the Sabarmati River, west of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. With a seating capacity of 132,000, it is also the largest stadium in the world. The stadium hosts matches for the India men’s and women’s national teams, Gujarat men’s and women’s teams, Gujarat Titans, and Gujarat Giants.

The stadium was built between 2015 and 2020 on the site of the former Sardar Patel Gujarat Stadium, which hosted several major events during its history, including matches from the 1987, 1996, and 2011 Cricket World Cups. The new stadium was designed by Populous and officially opened to the public in 2020.

Narendra Modi Stadium is a large and modern facility featuring VIP boxes, training areas, a large parking area, an Olympic-size swimming pool, and a food court. It has multiple entry gates and metro access, and a smart design with clear views from all seats, special roof lighting, and Bermuda grass.

The first match at the stadium was played on 24 February 2021. It served as the main venue for the 2022 National Games of India and hosted the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The stadium also hosted the “Namaste Trump” event on 24 and 25 February 2020. In addition, Coldplay performed there on 25 and 26 January 2025.
