North Sentinel Island is a remote island and a protected area in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India, located in the Bay of Bengal, northeastern Indian Ocean. It has an area of 59.67 km2 (23.04 sq mi). The island is situated about 20 miles west of Wandoor, South Andaman Island. Sentinelese live in complete isolation and refuse any contact with the outside world. It was designated a particularly vulnerable tribal group by the Indian government. Visits to North Sentinel Island and approaches within 9 kilometers are prohibited.
