Notting Hill's Famous Blue Door

Notting Hill is a beloved romantic comedy directed by Roger Michell and written by Richard Curtis. The film showcases unforgettable on-screen chemistry between Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, supported by a talented cast including Rhys Ifans, Richard McCabe, James Dreyfus, Gina McKee, and Emma Chambers. The story follows Will Thacker, a bookstore owner in Notting Hill, whose ordinary life changes when he falls in love with world-famous Hollywood actress Anna Scott. 

The movie became a global box-office hit, earning over $364 million worldwide, and received multiple prestigious nominations and awards, including nominations from the BAFTA Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. 

Many scenes were filmed in real locations throughout Notting Hill, London. Key filming spots include Portobello Road (home to Will’s bookstore), Rosmead Garden, Coronet Cinema, Lansdowne Road, and Westbourne Park Road—all of which have quickly become popular tourist destinations for fans of the movie. 

One of the most recognizable locations is Will’s flat with the famous blue door, located at 280 Westbourne Park Road. Interestingly, the property once belonged to screenwriter Richard Curtis himself. After the film’s release, the original blue door was removed and sold at a Christie’s auction. A new door was installed and painted black, though it was eventually restored to its iconic blue to honor the film’s legacy.
