The Perito Moreno Glacier (Glaciar Perito Moreno) is a large glacier (ice area) situated in Los Glaciares National Park in Santa Cruz Province, southern Argentina. It was named after the explorer and academic Francisco Moreno. It has an area of 250 km2 (97 sq mi) with a length of 30 km (19 mi) and a width of 5 km (3 mi). Perito Moreno Glacier is located about 78 kilometers west of El Calafate, right on the border between Argentina and Chile, in the southern part of the South American continent. The park is very old, one of the oldest established in the country. There is a large lake, Lago Argentino, located right near the glacier area. It is also a very popular tourist spot in southern Patagonia with a visitor center offering boat tours, a cafe, boardwalks, etc.
