Perpignan is a community in the region of Occitanie situated in the southern France. The city can be found just at the border between France and Spain, and it is an old settlement established in about the 10th century AD, at the place of a really tiny village which emerged in the Roman Empire epochs. During its long history the city used to be a part of Spanish and French states. In the late 19th century the city started expanding and growing as a center of industry and transport, and in the 20th century it became a home to not only a railway station but also a small airport. Modern Perpignan is a tourist spot and has a lot of examples of amazing old architecture, including the local palaces and cathedrals, fortifications and ruins of the old military buildings, crowded streets with plenty of small cafes there, friendly people and plenty of annual events taking place there.
