The district was established in the 18th century and has got the name of Rasyal from which the present day's name has derived. It is bordered by other districts, Rajouri to the west, Udhampur and Ramban to the east, Kulgam to the north, and Jammu to the south. Reasi has a great number of attractions including Vaishno Devi Temple, Bhimgarh Fort, Baba Dhansar, Shivk Hori, and so on. It is also home to the Reasi Campus of the University of Jammu. Chenab Rail Bridge, the world's highest rail bridge as well as the world's 13th highest bridge with a height of 359 m, is located in Reasi.
