The Rumkale Fortress is a famous historical landmark situated in southeastern Turkey, right at the border between the provinces of Gaziantep and Urfa. The fortress is located right on the shores of the Euphrates river and is a very valuable historical monument. It is believed to be built during the Byzantine times at the place of an old strategic fortress built by the Assyrians. During its love history the fortress was ruled by the Greek, Armenians, Egyptians, and Ottomans.
