One of the most sacred Buddhist temples in the world, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or Sri Dalada Maligawa is located in Sri Dalada Veediya, 1.2 kilometers away from Kandy city center, Sri Lanka. It is a large historical golden-roofed temple that houses the most important Buddhist relic in the country, the tooth of the Buddha. The temple was completed in 1595 and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. There is a statue of Madduma Bandara, one of the national heroes of Sri Lanka, in the main entrance of the temple (Mahawahalkada). It also houses the statue of Princess Hemamali and Prince Dantha.
