Victoria: Capital of the Seychelles

Victoria is the capital city of the Seychelles, located in the western Indian Ocean. The city is situated on the northeastern coast of Mahé, the largest island in the country. It is the most populous city on the island and serves as the economic, tourism, cultural, and educational hub of the Seychelles. Victoria has a major port known as Port Victoria and is home to government offices, including the State House, the official residence of the President of the Seychelles.

Victoria is a multireligious city, with churches, temples, and mosques. The Immaculate Conception Cathedral, located near the Victoria Clock Tower, was constructed in 1874. The Arulmigu Navasakti Vinayagar Temple is the only Hindu temple in the Seychelles and is also located in Victoria.

Stad Linité is a football stadium located within the Roche Caiman Sports Complex and has a seating capacity of 10,000. Opened in 1993, the stadium hosts matches of the Seychelles national football team. Another major attraction is the Victoria Botanical Gardens, which opened in 1901 and features local plant species as well as giant tortoises. Other points of interest in the city include the National Museum of History and Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market.

The University of Seychelles, established on 17 September 2009, is located in Victoria and serves as the main higher education institution in the country. The island is served by Seychelles International Airport, which functions as the main hub for Air Seychelles.
