It was based on The Dance of the Forty-One, also known as the Ball of the Forty-One, which was a society scandal in early 20th-century Mexico. The film was released on 1 November 2020. Dance of the 41 was shot in Mexico City, Mexico. Filming also took place in the streets of Guadalajara in western Mexico.
