Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton: Home of the Edmonton Elks

Commonwealth Stadium is a major sports venue in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, located at 11000 Stadium Road NW in the McCauley neighborhood. It is the largest stadium in the country, with a seating capacity of about 60,000. The stadium was opened on July 15, 1978, and renovated in 2001 and 2008, along with expansions in 1982 and 2013. The stadium serves as the home field of the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). It has also previously hosted teams such as the Edmonton Drillers (NASL) and FC Edmonton (Canadian Championship). In addition, it regularly hosts selected matches of the Canada men’s national soccer team.

Throughout its history, Commonwealth Stadium has been the venue for numerous important international events, including the 1978 Commonwealth Games, the 1983 Summer Universiade, the 2002 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Championship, the 2006 Women’s Rugby World Cup, the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, and the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The stadium hosts a wide variety of events, including Canadian football, soccer, ice hockey, and rugby union matches, as well as large-scale concerts. Over the years, it has hosted many legendary artists and bands, including David Bowie, Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, U2, The Police, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, AC/DC, Beyoncé, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, and Pink.
