Macapá, known as the Capital of the Middle of the World, is a city in the state of Amapa, northern Brazil. It is located on the Amazon River on the state border with Pará, and close to the Atlantic Ocean. Macapa is famous for its highly developing economy dominated by businesses and commerce and a great number of tourist attractions. The city is subdivided into 5 districts. It is one of the wealthiest cities in the whole region. Founded on February 4, 1758, the city has an international airport, Macapa International Airport - Alberto Alcolumbre, situated at the heart of the city. It connects the city to many major cities including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belém, Brasília, Fortaleza, and Salvador. It has lots of points of interest, like Macapá Shopping Mall, Fortaleza de São José de Macapá Historical Place Museum, Orla De Macapá, Museu Sacaca, Floriano Peixoto Square, The Estádio Milton Corrêa, Fazendinha Beach, and Fortress of St. Joseph. The city is also an educational hub, home to several universities such as Universidade Federal do Amapá and Universidade Estadual do Amapá.
