Mount Fuji, Japan

Mount Fuji (富士山) is one of the traditional symbols of Japan and its tallest mountain, with an elevation of 12,388 feet (3,776 meters). The mountain is located about 60–70 miles southwest of Tokyo and is a must-see for visitors traveling to the region. Mount Fuji stands roughly 9 miles from the coastline of Suruga Bay on the Pacific coast and offers truly breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. A number of other tall mountains are located near Fuji, including Mount Kita, situated about 29 miles to the north, and the Southern Yatsugatake volcanic group, located approximately 55 miles to the northwest.

Mount Fuji is positioned between Shizuoka Prefecture to the south and southwest, Yamanashi Prefecture to the north, and Kanagawa Prefecture to the east. Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park covers areas surrounding the mountain, particularly to the southwest.

The mountain is frequently depicted in Japanese art, not only because of its iconic location but also due to its beautifully symmetrical cone, which is typically covered in snow for about five months of the year during the winter season. Mount Fuji is also very popular among climbers, paragliders, and visual artists.
