It has a collection size of 3,000 objects and features interactive displays, Scottish-built cars, trucks, ship models, and locomotives. It was established on April 14, 1964, as Glasgow Museum of Transport. Situated on the northern bank of the River Clyde, on the site of a former shipyard, it was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects and became a museum on June 21, 2011. The museum received the European Museum of the Year Award in 2013. The Tall Ship Glenlee features tours, exhibitions, and a cinema. Riverside Museum is 2.5 miles west of Glasgow's city center.
