Located at 100 Market Street, between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets, in the very center of Sydney, Sydney Tower (also known as AMP Tower, Westfield Tower, and Centrepoint Tower) is the tallest free-standing structure on the continent. It was designed by Donald Crone and Associates (now Crone Architects) and constructed and opened in the early 1980s. With a height of just over 1,000 feet, the tower dominates the city’s financial and business district.
The main function of the tower is broadcast transmission; however, it also features a restaurant and a large observation deck known as the Sydney Tower Eye, located in the upper section of the structure. Nearby attractions include Archibald Fountain, Hyde Park, the Anzac Memorial, Sydney Town Hall, the Chinese Garden of Friendship, the Museum of Sydney, the Australian National Maritime Museum, The Galeries, Pitt Street Mall, and many others. The tower has also been featured in films such as Mission: Impossible 2, Finding Nemo, and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.
