Timberline Lodge, Oregon: The Shining Filming Location

Timberline Lodge is a 3-star hotel with a ski resort, located in Oregon, United States, at 27500 E Timberline Road, Government Camp. It was built between 1936 and 1938 and designed by Gilbert Stanley Underwood in the Rustic Cascadian Neovernacular style. The lodge is a U.S. National Historic Landmark and has been listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since November 12, 1973. This remarkable hotel is situated within the Mount Hood National Forest and can be accessed via U.S. Route 26. 

Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood is most widely recognized from Stanley Kubrick's 1980 horror classic The Shining, starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, and Danny Lloyd. The hotel served as the exterior of the fictional Overlook Hotel in the film. Today, Timberline Lodge is a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year. The hotel hosted the 2017 Overlook Film Festival. It has also been used as a filming location for All the Young Men (1960), Lost Horizon (1973), and Wild (2014).
