Vilnius, Lithuania

Vilnius is the capital and the largest city of Lithuania, one of the countries in the Baltic region, which can be found on the southeastern shores of the Baltic Sea, in Northwestern Europe. The city of Vilnius is located in the southeastern part of the country, just about 25 miles away from the border between Lithuania and Belarus. The total area of Vilnius is estimated to be about 155 square miles, and it is built on the banks of the River Neris, which crosses the downtown area of the city. 

Vilnius is an old and fascinating city located 180 miles south of the city of Riga, about 115 miles northwest of Minsk, about 450 miles northwest of Kyiv, and slightly below 300 miles northeast of the city of Warsaw. Geographically, Vilnius is located on small hills on the banks of the Neris River, and the average elevation of the city is about 160 feet. Vilnius is an inland city and a center of the country's economic and cultural life. The distance to the city of Klaipėda and the shores of the Baltic Sea is approximately 200 miles. 

Vilnius is a very beautiful old historic settlement, with a great deal of monuments and historic sites like old castles, churches, cathedrals, and towers. The largest neighborhoods of Vilnius include areas such as Nemėžis, Paneriai, Lentvaris, Grigiškės, Šeškinė, and Žirmūnai, as well as the nearby town of Trakai, a famous tourist destination where it is possible to find a wonderful old castle known as Trakai Island Castle, located on a tiny island in the middle of Galvė Lake.
