This Route Planner is a lightweight, browser-based navigation tool built with Leaflet and OpenStreetMap. It allows you to build complete routes by adding multiple waypoints, optimizing their order, and viewing total travel time and distance. Whether you’re planning a road trip, exploring a hiking trail, preparing delivery routes, or creating custom maps, this tool gives you full control with an easy-to-use interface.
How to Use the Route Planner
- Click on the map to add a waypoint.
Each click creates a point in the order you select them. - Adjust the order of waypoints.
Use the arrow buttons to move points up or down in the route list. - Remove any waypoint.
Use the delete (trash) button next to each item. - Choose route type.
Select Driving, Walking, or Cycling if your version supports multiple profiles. - Calculate the route.
The tool will display a polyline on the map along with total distance and estimated travel time. - Move waypoints on the map.
Drag a marker to refine your path. The route updates automatically. - Export your route.
Save your route as GeoJSON, useful for GIS tools or further editing.
Meaning of Buttons & Controls
Map Buttons
- Add Waypoint Mode:
Enables or disables adding new points by clicking on the map. - Clear Route:
Removes all waypoints and resets the route. - Export GeoJSON:
Downloads the route and its waypoints as a .geojson file.
Waypoint List Buttons
- ▲ Move Up:
Sends the selected waypoint higher in the route order. - ▼ Move Down:
Moves the waypoint lower in the sequence. - 🗑 Delete:
Removes a single waypoint from the route.
Route Information Display
Distance:
Total length of the route in kilometers.
Duration:
Estimated travel time calculated from routing engine data.
