Baku is a coastal city situated on the western shores of the Caspian Sea and the central part of the city is called Icherisheher. It faces the waters of the sea and is famous for its tall modern skyscrapers built side by side with old historical monuments, mosques, palaces, fortresses, markets, and other landmarks of the city. The largest neighborhoods and neighboring towns of the city include Yasamal, Khatai, Sabayil, Sabunchu, Zabrat, Mehdiabad, Lokbatan, as well as a large city of Sumqayit.
