Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated U.S. territory located in the northeastern part of the Caribbean Sea, east of the Dominican Republic. Its full name is the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and its total area is roughly estimated to be about 3,500 square miles. The islands are part of a large archipelago known as the Greater Antilles, which also includes Jamaica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, and other islands. This archipelago forms the northern and northeastern borders of the Caribbean Sea, one of the largest seas on the planet, located in the southwestern corner of the North Atlantic Ocean. Puerto Rico is about a 2-hour 55-minute flight from Miami, about a 2-hour 45-3-hour flight from Havana (via a connecting flight), about a 1-hour 20-minute flight from Port‑au‑Prince, and a 1-hour 35-1-hour 45-minute flight from Caracas.

The Puerto Rican archipelago includes the main island as well as smaller islands such as Vieques and Culebra. The city of San Juan is the capital and largest city. Other important cities include Arecibo, Mayagüez, Ponce, Utuado, San Sebastián, Bayamón, Carolina, Caguas, and others. Puerto Rico has a long coastline with many beautiful beaches, hotels, and resorts. The island is also home to numerous medium and small nature preserves, including El Yunque National Forest, Bosque Carite National Forest, Humacao Nature Reserve, Río Abajo State Forest, Bosque Estatal de Guajataca, Maricao State Forest, Guánica State Forest, Toro Negro State Forest, and others.
