The Republic of Fiji

Fiji, officially the Republic of Fiji, is an island country and a famous resort destination located in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Australia. The country consists of more than 300 islands, most of them small and uninhabited, featuring clear lagoons, beautiful beaches, and hills covered with evergreen forests. Fiji’s total land area is about 7,100 square miles, making it one of the smallest countries in the world.

Suva is the capital city and is located on the island of Viti Levu, within the Central Division of the country. The Republic of Fiji is divided into four geographical divisions -Central, Northern, Eastern, and Western- and 14 provinces. Due to its remote location, Fiji can be relatively difficult to reach. Brisbane, the nearest major Australian city, lies about 1,725 miles to the west, while Auckland in New Zealand is 1,335 miles to the south. Nearby island countries include Vanuatu to the northwest, American Samoa to the east, and New Caledonia to the west.

Major cities in Fiji include Suva, Nadi, Lautoka, Labasa, Ba, and Nausori. Fiji is a paradise for tourists who enjoy scuba diving, underwater sports, water skiing, surfing, kayaking, and other outdoor activities. The country is also home to several natural parks, such as Colo-I-Suva Forest Park and Koroyanitu National Park.
