Monuriki: Famous as Cast Away Island

Monuriki is a small volcanic island in Fiji, located in the South Pacific Ocean. It became widely known after the release of Robert Zemeckis’s film Cast Away (2000), starring Tom Hanks, and its popularity has led many to refer to it as Cast Away Island. Monuriki was the main filming location for the movie, which tells the story of a modern-day Robinson Crusoe. The island features white sandy beaches, coral reefs, and clear, scenic waters. Visitors can reach the island by boat and enjoy activities such as snorkelling, swimming, and taking in the breathtaking scenery.

Monuriki is part of the larger Mamanuca Islands, which have served as the primary filming location for the television series Survivor since 2016. The island is about 1.15 kilometres long and 600 metres wide. It is the southernmost island in its group, located west of Tavua, south of Monu, and southwest of Yanuya. Cast Away Island Beach is one of the island’s main tourist attractions.
