Virginia City is a census-designated place in Nevada, United States, situated 26 miles southeast of Reno. It serves as the seat of Storey County and part of the Reno–Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Comstock Lode, the first major discovery of silver ore in the United States, was located in Virginia City. Following its discovery in 1859, the city rapidly developed into a boomtown in the mid-19th century. Today, the city is a popular tourist destination and is home to numerous attractions, such as Mackay Mansion Museum, The Way It Was Museum, Chollar Mine Tour, Fort Homestead, Silver Terrace Cemetery, Comstock Gold Mill, Washoe Club Museum & Saloon, St Mary's Art Center, and Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company.
