Denpasar: The Capital of Bali Province

Denpasar is the capital city of Bali Province, located on the island of Bali in southern Indonesia. The island is part of the Lesser Sunda Islands archipelago in Maritime Southeast Asia, and Denpasar is among the largest cities in the region. It serves as an important administrative, commercial, and business center, with port facilities located nearby.

The total area of the municipality is about 50 square miles, and the urban area has expanded in recent years. Denpasar is situated in southern Bali, close to the coast and the Indian Ocean, including Benoa Bay to the southeast. The city of Surabaya is located about 250 miles to the east of Denpasar, while Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, lies 700 miles to the west-northwest.

Denpasar developed along the banks of the Badung River and has an average elevation of approximately 13 feet above sea level. The city has passed through various historical periods, including colonial rule, traces of which are preserved in its monuments and historic sites. Tourism plays a significant role in the local economy, supported by numerous hotels, restaurants, and entertainment facilities. Denpasar is surrounded by major urban and suburban areas such as North Kuta and Sukawati, and its outskirts feature natural attractions, including rivers and waterfalls, most notably Tegenungan Waterfall.
