Edison, New Jersey: Birthplace of the Modern World

Edison, nicknamed the Birthplace of the Modern World, is a township in eastern New Jersey, located about 36 miles southwest of New York City. It was settled in the 17th century, incorporated as Raritan Township on March 17, 1870, and renamed on November 10, 1954. The city got its name after a famous American inventor, Thomas Edison, who lived a part of his life and made a few important discoveries there. There are a few attractions in the township, honoring the life of the inventor, like the Edison State Park and Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park, which are visited by many people year-round. There are excellent educational facilities in Edison, as well as plenty of green zones and quite low crime rates, making the city among the best ones for living and bringing up children.

Edison is home to Menlo Park Mall, a large shopping mall located at 55 Parsonage Road. Opened in September 1959, the shopping mall has two floors and features over 150 stores and services. The township is also home to Middlesex College and the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center. Edison Train Station, U.S. Route 1, Interstates 95 and 287 serve the area. Raritan Center, a 2,300-acre business park, is located in Edison.
