Germantown, Maryland: A CDP Near Washington, D.C.

Germantown is a census-designated place in the state of Maryland and part of the Washington metropolitan area. Located about 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Washington, D.C., in Montgomery County, Germantown is one of the most populous communities in Maryland. The area was originally founded in the 19th century by European settlers and has since developed into a major suburban center within the greater Washington, D.C. region. Interstate 270 and the Germantown Train Station serve the area, connecting the community with Washington, D.C., and other parts of Montgomery County.

Today, Germantown is a large business and commercial hub known for its prestigious residential neighborhoods, modern shopping areas, and well-developed public facilities. It offers many recreational and cultural attractions. Popular local attractions include Seneca Creek State Park, Black Hill Regional Park, Gunner's Lake Local Park, the Lancaster County Dutch Market, Black Hill Trail, and the BlackRock Center for the Arts, which hosts concerts, exhibitions, and various events. Germantown is also home to a campus of Montgomery College, an important educational institution serving students from across Montgomery County and the Washington metropolitan area.
