Maryland, USA

Maryland is one of the states of the United States, located along the Atlantic coast in the eastern part of the country. It is part of the Mid-Atlantic region and is a relatively small state in terms of area, but it has a very long coastline. Maryland is bordered by Pennsylvania to the north, Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Virginia and the District of Columbia to the south, and West Virginia to the west. With a total area of about 12,500 square miles, the state is among the smaller states in the country. The length of Maryland’s shoreline is estimated to exceed 3,000 miles, mainly due to the large number of islands, bays, and inlets along its coast. 

Known as the Free State or America in Miniature, Maryland has played a major role in U.S. history, with many important events taking place there, especially over the last two centuries. The largest city in the state is Baltimore, which is also one of the major ports and logistics centers in the region. Annapolis is the capital and administrative center of the state. Other large cities in Maryland include Hagerstown, Frederick, Towson, Bethesda, Rockville, and Salisbury. Due to its proximity to the nation’s capital, located just southwest of the state, parts of Maryland are densely populated and closely connected to Baltimore and the greater Washington metropolitan area.
