Maryland is one of the states of the United States of America, located on the shores of the Atlantic coast, in the eastern region of the country. It is a part of so called Mid-Atlantic region and is a state with quite a small area but quite a long coastline. Maryland is bordered by the state of Pennsylvania to the north, by the state of Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, by the states of Virginia and the District of Columbia to the south, as well as by the state of West Virginia to the west. It is estimated that the length of the shoreline of the state is exceeding 3 thousand miles, due to a large number of islands and inlets.

The largest city of the state is Baltimore and it is one of the largest ports and logistics centers of the whole region. Annapolis is the capital and the administrative center of the state. Other large cities of Maryland include the ones of Hagerstown, Frederick, Towson, Bethesda, Rockville, Sailsbury, and others. Due to a very close proximity to the capital city of the country which is located just to the south west of the state, the adjacent area is heavily populated and is closely connected with the largest city of Maryland, Baltimore.
