With a seating capacity of over 65,000, it is the largest stadium in Virginia. The stadium opened on September 24, 1965, and has been expanded and renovated several times over the years. It has served as the home field of the NCAA’s Virginia Tech Hokies since its opening.
The stadium was named after Edward Hudson Lane, a former student of the university from the early 1900s. In addition to college football games, Lane Stadium has also hosted major events, including a Metallica concert on May 7, 2025, as part of the M72 World Tour.
