Originally known as Iowa Stadium (1929–1972), it opened on October 5, 1929, and has a seating capacity of more than 69,000. The facility has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years.
Since 1929, it has served as the home field of the NCAA’s Iowa Hawkeyes football team and is one of the largest stadiums in the Big Ten Conference. The University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital is located adjacent to the stadium. Kinnick Stadium is also close to U.S. Route 6 and approximately three miles from Iowa City Municipal Airport.
