It hosted many major events such as the 1955 Mediterranean Games, the 1989 IAAF World Cup, the 1992 Olympics, the 2010 European Athletics Championships, the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics, and so on. It has a capacity of over 54 thousand people. The stadium was designed by Pere Domènech i Roura, built in 1927, opened on 20 May 1929, and renovated between 1985 and 89. It is the home ground for FC Barcelona.
