Pennsylvania, or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is one of the states of the USA located in the northeast part of the country, right in the western region of the North American Continent. The state has borders with the state of Ohio in the west, with the states of New York in the north, with the state of New Jersey in the east, and the states of Delaware, Maryland, and West Virginia in the south of it. The whole eastern border of the state is formed by the Delaware River. The total area of Pennsylvania is estimated to be about 46 thousand square miles, and the city of Harrisburg is the capital city of the state. The city of Philadelphia, located in the south easternmost part of the state, is the largest one in Pennsylvania. Other large cities include Allentown, Pittsburgh, Altoona, Erie, Wilkes- Barre, and others.

The state of Pennsylvania occupies the large area between Lake Erie and the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Thus, the north western part of the state is facing the lake, with the city of Erie located right there. The south eastern part of the state is situated quite close to the ocean, with the cities of Philadelphia and Levittown located just about 70 miles away from the shores. Most of the state area is covered by forests and valleys, and there are many national parks like Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Bethlehem Municipal Water Authority, Long Pond Conservation Easement, Hickory Run State Park, Pinchot State Forest, Tioga State Forest, Susquehannock State Forest, Elk State Forest, Quehanna Wild Area, Rothrock State Forest, Allegheny National Forest, Moshannon State Forest, and others.
