Starring Lily Franky, Kirin Kiki, Mayu Matsuoka, Jyo Kairi, Miyu Sasaki, and Sakura Ando, the film is about a family that relies on shoplifting to cope with a life of poverty. It premiered on 13 May 2018 at the Cannes Film Festival, won the Palme d'Or, and nominated Academy Awards for "Best Foreign Language Film of the Year". Shoplifters was mainly shot in Tokyo, Japan. Ohara Beach was among the filming locations.
