Caracas: The Capital City of Venezuela

Caracas is one of the largest cities in South America, the capital of Venezuela, a major industrial center, and an important transportation hub of the northern coastal area. With its full name, Santiago de León de Caracas, the city is located near the northern edge of the South American continent, in the northern region of the country. Caracas covers an area of about 16 square miles, and its downtown lies approximately 6 miles south of the shores of the Caribbean Sea. The city is built along the banks of the Guaire River and is the largest city in the country. Caracas is located about 640 miles northeast of Bogotá, around 865 miles east of Panama City, and 2,200 miles northwest of Brasília.

The city enjoys a favorable geographical location at the foot of Cerro El Ávila, a mountain range that helps protect it from harsh climatic conditions coming from the sea. The downtown area is situated in the northeastern part of the municipality, with central districts such as Los Caobos, Quinta Crespo, and Los Chaguaramos, among others. Large neighboring districts of Caracas include La Urbina, Petare, Antímano, Fuerte Tiuna, and Catia.
