The wonderful city of Iwaki (いわき市) is located in the coastal region of the prefecture of Fukushima, Japan. It is one of the largest cities in Japan and enjoys a spectacular location, between the ocean waters and the highlands of the mountains. Iwaki is an industrial city, with plenty of small manufacturing and chemical enterprises, and is well-connected with a wide transportation network. Iwaki Station, the Jōban Expressway, and the Ban-etsu Expressway, as well as a few national routes, serve the area. It is bordered by Ibaraki Prefecture to the south.

The city has several interesting points of interest, including Shioyasaki Lighthouse, Shiramizu Amidado Buddhist Temple, Iwakikairo Museum, Iwaki City Coal & Fossil Museum, Iwaki Flower Center, Mt. Kinuya Fuji, Shinmaikohama Park, Toyoma Beach, Iwaki Ammonite Center, Iwaki-Taira Velodrome, Iwaki Green Stadium, 21 Seikinomori Park, and Fukushima Prefectural Iwaki Park. The city is also famous for festivals and celebrations like the Taira Tanabata Festival.

Iwaki is home to the Iwaki-Taira Velodrome, which opened in 1951 and hosts pari-mutuel Keirin racing, one of Japan's four authorized "Public Sports" where gambling is allowed.
