Kerala, India

Kerala is one of the southern states of India, located on the western edge of the Indian subcontinent. Kerala is bordered by the state of Tamil Nadu to the east, the state of Karnataka to the north, and the waters of the Arabian Sea to the west. The city of Thiruvananthapuram is the capital of the state and is located on its southern edge.

The total area of Kerala is a little over 15 thousand square miles, and administratively the state is divided into 14 districts. Among the major cities and urban centers of Kerala are Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Alappuzha, Kannur, Kasaragod, Palakkad, Thiruvalla, Changanassery, Payyanur, and Vatakara, among others.

Due to its location along the sea, Kerala is a well-known resort region and is famous for its beaches, hotels, and various seaside vacation facilities. Like Goa, a popular Indian resort state located north of Karnataka, the southern part of the country has many attractive beaches and modern facilities for water sports. As a large and well-known resort area, Kerala is a destination for local tourists and is noted for its wide range of hotels, amusement parks, lagoons, harbors, and related attractions. The coastal cities of the state attract millions of tourists from across the region.

In addition, Kerala is a center of Malayalam culture, traditions, customs, arts and dance, cinema, cuisine, lifestyle, and social attitudes.
